The New York Observer's Best TV of 2009 →
happycap: As a former Page, this list makes me very happy for NBC.  The current Thursday night lineup is pretty great. Good list, but I really do have to disagree with them regarding Parks & Recreation. Managed a complete 180 and I thought was arguably stronger than 30 Rock this season. Also, LOST was great this year - not sure how they missed that.

X-Mas?
labellavitaa: I’m sorry… I’m not so sure I know what you mean. Ohhh… CHRISTmas? Yeah, ok, now I gotcha. The “X” in “Xmas” refers to the Greek letter Chi, the first letter in Greek for “Christ” (Χριστός). See also: Chi Rho.

WatchWatch
patrickcassels: I was sick on Sunday and found myself watching a bunch of free MacGyver episodes on YouTube. After a dozen or so episodes I fell in love with Murdoc, Angus MacGyver’s arch nemesis who (seemingly) dies while screaming at the end of every episode he’s in. In fact, I liked him so much I edited a tribute to him.

Amazed
jeffmiller: The Democrats are about to pass a bill that insurance companies love, but the public hates.  When people realize that they have to buy insurance policies or face penalties, they will hate it even more, since they voted for a president who promised there wouldn’t be a mandate.  No serious person believes the numbers that have been used to justify this legislation.  Since the President...

Behind Closed Doors
jeffmiller: moorewr: “behind closed doors?” I can’t imagine a more painfully public process for any legislation, ever. And if it is a bad bill, blame the GOP for handing veto power to a handful of Democrats who happen to be the Insurance Industry’s best friends. Okay, first, it’s been behind closed doors: Three months before he was elected president, Barack Obama vowed not only to reform health...

Want to hear about corruption?
onemoretimewithfeeling: yasmary: Eligio Cedeño, a banker in Venezuela has an affair with the daughter of the Venezuelan president, then dumps her. A little while later, charges are brought up against him. He goes and hands himself in, saying he has nothing to hide. He then spends “34 months in jail, on charges that were never heard in court, for authorities kept delaying the trial, which had...

Federal Salaries Explode →
hilker: “Cauchon finds that since the economy fell into recession, the number of federal workers earning more than $150,000 has more than doubled. The federal government has become extremely bloated and top heavy, even as families and businesses across the nation have had to tighten their belts. With 383,000 workers earning six-figure salaries, the government has become an elite island of...
