Killer song!  Never really listened to them, but name-dropping Sufjan will always make me take a listen.  Really enjoying this track.

Mates of State — The Re-Arranger  Yesterday was a big HUGE day for Mates of State: they were on Conan and their album “Re-Arrange Us” came out.  Their song My Only Offer is currently enjoying the number one spot on elbows and while I’m a certainly a fan, I’m partial to this one— the quasi-title track off the new album.

The first 25 seconds have this sort of ethereal Sufjan Stevens orchestral feel before the song transitions to a sound that is unequivocally Mates of States: the organ, the drums, and Kori and Jason alternating crooning and belting.  This song like all the others off the new album shows how they have improved their sound without losing it.
