Saint Patrick, a few facts about the Patron saint of Ireland
- He was actually Welsh!
- A pirate called Niall of the Nine Hostages captured him an brought him to Ireland where he tended sheep on a mountain in Co. Antrim
- He did not actually chase any snakes out of Ireland. It is generally acknowledged that the climate is too cold and wet for them to survive in the wild.
- Both the Catholic Church and Church of Ireland recognize him as a saint.
- March 17th is a holy day of obligation in Ireland.
St. Patrick led an extraordinary life….Escaping slavery in Ireland, only to return later to witness to the very people who enslaved him. Amazing!
