Story about Sully
I just found out that Jenny’s mom, Betty Jean, has met the pilot, Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, III. Last year Jenny’s sister was running late for a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Charlotte. Betty Jean was already seated on her seat on the plane. The flight attendants were getting ready for takeoff and closing the doors. Betty Jean was pleading with them to just let her daughter on the plane. “My daughter’s right outside of the gate. Just let her in, please!” The flight attendants refused
That’s when Captain Sullenberger comes out of the cockpit and says in the sweetest and most concerned voice, “What’s going on here?” Betty Jean explains the situation to him and he stops everything, opens the doors himself, goes out and gets Jenny’s sister and even walks her to her seat. Everyone on the plane bursts out clapping and cheering. That’s when he says to Betty Jean “That had nothing to do with US Airways, that was airport personnel. We don’t handle situations like that.” He smiles and walks away.
This man is clearly one of those rare genuinely good souls. God bless him, man, God bless him.
Amazing story Randy!
